Fridge Logic or Fridge Brilliance?

Had the revelation earlier today (in the midst of post-thesis insanity; first draft is done!) that one of my favorite X-Files fanfics back in the day, and I'm talking nine, ten years ago here, was basically almost an early version of Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes. Which is either really freaky or really cool. And dammit, now I want to reread that story, and I can't remember where the hell I found it...

You should write EO fic. *Cough, Cough*

How is the writing going, bb?

Oh, hon, I don't know nearly enough about SVU to write it, as pretty as the characters are. ;) I think I'd have to catch up on ten seasons worth of viewing first, lol...it's been months since I've written any fic, I've been so absorbed in thesis work. I have been thinking about Sleeping Gods though, and where I want to go with that. ;) The one snag I'm running into is I'd have to bring another Time Lord type character in, and unless I label it as crackfic that may be a major risk...

The writing got thrown for a major loop a few weeks ago - my professor basically told me that he didn't think the piece I was working on (all 150 pages of it) would be ready in time for presentation. So since I've spent the last few weeks in major revision, leading to four short stories, 120 pages, and me passing out in a heap on my bed lol...

How's your writing going too?

[identity profile] mrs_roy.livejournal.com 2010-10-06 02:02 am (UTC)(link)

Oh, bb. It's so not hard. Let me break it down. *Clears throat* I'm even going to use pictures to make it easy.

Stabler. He's the sexy one.
Photobucket

He says, see you lot later, I'm out of here, goin to bang Liv!
Photobucket

They hold hands, and kiss a little.
Photobucket Photobucket

Then, they can't take it anymore.
Photobucket

And along comes baby Stabler.
Photobucket

THE END.

Oh, bb, don't listen to him. You're writing is the bestest, and you are by far, the best and most awesome beta I've had! *GLOMPS*
150 pages is a lot of writing. No wonder it's taking so long.

I believe in you, bb! But, you need to take a little break, I don't want you to burn out!

OMG. SLEEPING GODS! *Diez* I cannot wait for more of this. (I thought we agreed on the Master, or was that just me? What about the Doctor's Mother. That would be neat!)

My writing is ok. Finished 1 fic, onto another. The first one got over 50 reviews, so that made me super happy! The second story, hmm, I'm still on the fence.

Don't be a stranger, I miss you bunches! You know where to find me :D

It's the perpetual dilemma - why are cops on TV so cool and so sexy, while in real life they're a bunch of rotten bastards? Or maybe that's just my experience. I'll stick to fictional cops, lol. They are both quite yummy in those pics. :)

Actually, he did have a point - looking back on those 150 pages, it is very rough, with some plot lines only tenuously connected. The short stories I'm turning in now for my thesis are much more coherent and polished so it will make a better project. And by listening to my professor (who is an actual published author, unlike myself) my work will be better, so it's all good. :) Now I just have to get the lecture I have to present done...oy vey. *facepalm*

50 reviews? That's so awesome hon! If you need any beta jobs done, let me know.

Re Sleeping Gods, the Master is still going to be the big baddie, no worries. :) I'm just wondering if I need another conscious Time Lord to go up against him while the Doctor's supposedly MIA. I'm on the fence about bringing Romana back somehow, although I'm basing a lot of that on RTD's statement that she was President of Gallifrey at some point during the Time War and not much else. I'd need to watch some of her classic episodes to really get a grasp on the character. If that doesn't work, I'm leaning towards Sarah Jane - I love the concept of bringing the Doctor's Mother in though! Would that be too happy families though? Not sure...got lots of thinking to do, so you're going to have to play sounding board for a while LOL. Luckily Mysterious Ways is officially completed - I'm posting the revised epilogue in a few minutes. :)

That should be his motto or something? Elliot Stabler - One fine piece of ass! I'd totally wear a T-shirt like that! In fact, I want one for Xmas! Real life cops are never as cool as the are on TV! It's a fact.

Well, then that's ok, but I still find it hard to believe that you could belt out rubbish! See, I told you to take a little break, have a breather and find yourself again. You've been inspired! Oh, well, if he's a published author, he probably actually has a clue what he's talking about. Don't listen to me then XD You can do it, I know you can, bb!

I don't want you to do anything but what you need to do, then, I will get you to help me Beta The Master eps for S3! They are going to do my head in. Seriously. Why do I want him to be blond?

Sound away my friend! I'm here and I'm square, or whatever the saying is XD Well, it is a bit happy families, but the Doctor won't know that it's his mother, and Charlie won't be able to pick her up on his radar. My only other suggestion is Bad!Wolf Rose. That would kinda be Time Lordy. Romana annoys me, but if you think she'd work? You could make one up, but that just seems like too much work? You really want SJ, don't you. Go on then, See, SJ and the Doctor's mother. It's like the Mothers club! Add Rose and that's all you need, or Donna or something XD

NO TIEM!BABEES. I hadmy cry, it was still awesome. I'm glad you went with a revised version of Gemma. And Bruno, welcome to the TARDIS my friend!

*Huggles*

Real life cops, especially the ones in my area, are a bunch of no-good low lifes, forget about being cool. Don't get me started though, otherwise you'll have to wade through pages and pages of me ranting, lol.

I never said what I wrote was rubbish, just a rough draft. First drafts always are, so it's all good. ;)

Why blond? Because John Simm + blond hair = hawtness. Going back to the idea that fictional cops are just hot and awesome, lol. Am almost done with schoolwork (two weeks til deadline!) so shoot over the master eps whenever you have them for me!

The reason I keep coming back to SJ is because I was planning on using the kids from her series in Sleeping Gods. It may seem like a bit of a cop out, but I like the idea of using established kid characters from the verse instead of making up new ones. That's why she keeps coming back to mind, because I can't see Luke and his crew not bringing up strange incidences like what would happen around Charlie up. I honestly barely know anything about Romana at this point (aside from the brief two minute clip in the 5 Doctors special) so I don't know if she annoys me or not yet lol.

The mothers' club, however, could be a very fun idea to play with. It actually reminds me of a quote from one of my favorite books (which, coincidentally, had a cameo by the 5th Doctor in there, something I didn't realize until long after I started watching Doctor Who, which was about twelve years after I first read the book - it seems like my life was leading me to DW, lol) which says: "Men will fight bravely and be heroes, but for a last ditch defense against any odds, get a mother." Hmm. May have to keep that in mind for plot inspiration. ;)

The Tiem!Babees are there, sort of, or at least by implication. They deserve their own story instead of just being tacked onto the end up the epic, was my line of thinking. And I still have to come up with names for them too! ;) I like the revised version of Gemma better too - it was just too coincidental that the old!book was still available as the new one was being written. This way removes a lot of the paradoxes. ;)

Rant away. I completely agree! I had a run in with a police officer not long back, he was telling me a whole bunch of crap, luckily I knew my rights, and I knew that he was nothing more than a hot bag of really disgusting, offending air! I'm still waiting to hear what happened after I spoke to his commanding officer and had him reprimanded. Jerk Off. He'll know better than to mess with me next time. How they get away with some of that shit is beyond me, and how so many people buy it makes me furious. Knowing the law helped me out!

I wasn't implying that you write rubbish, because clearly you don't XD That as just my word, maybe I could have rephrased that a little better. But you make a very good point! Rough drafts are exactly that! A little rough around the edges. I still don't know why you worry, though! You're talent!

I'm ashamed to admit that I Lurved Simm in TEoT. I thought Tennant paled in comparison. Perhaps that's unfair of me, being a 10/Rose shipper, but the man was absolute fucking brilliance! And looks way better as a blond! Are you thinking about Tyler v Stabler? Oh God, cause I am ;)

I've not seen the Sarah Jane eps, so I can't be of much assistance there I'm afraid, but I do think that established characters work better! So I'm all for that! And Cool hand Luke, he's pretty clued up, I think he'd be onto them in a second. For some reason, the thought of SJ and the Doctor together makes me icky!

You should absolutely take that quote and run with it! I just like the fact that the Doctors mother was the one who gave him the strength to do what he needed to do. God knows that Rose did the same when she and Charlie came back to the Doctor. In a way, it's all about the strength of the Mother. Add Jackie in there somewhere and you know you're on a winner! Plus, in some sense, we know that she's a canon character now! That helps too, it wouldn't seem so outrageous.

Ah, Tiem!babies. How I adore thee. Oh, Oh, can I name one too? Please XD

I'm leave this for you, cause I really want you to tell me how proud you are of me XD

*GLOMPS* ♥ you.

I actually dated a police officer for about two years - needless to say it didn't end well, which probably spurs some of my ire towards them. I did get to hear a lot of the inside dirt, however, about all of the stuff that went on behind the scenes, and it would amaze/horrify you. The rotters all end up sticking together, and will flat out lie about things if necessary. So knowing all of those behind the scenes details makes me hate them even more...that and the idiot cops end up spending more time chasing runaway llamas around here (true story!) than doing things like getting drunk drivers off the road because they don't want to deal with the paperwork (again, truth - the paperwork on a DUI is more than if there was a murder).

Oh, no shame whatsoever about loving Simm more than Tennant in those episodes! Loving Simm does not at all take away from your 10/R shipperhood. ;) He was very brilliant. I may be biased, however - there was an inordinate amount of squee on my part when I learned that OMG Sam Tyler was going to be on Doctor Who back in S3. Tyler v. Stabler? Holy Crap. *SWOON*

I've seen most of the new SJ eps, so I think I can work with them fairly well. Most of them are available online too, so some rewatching will help as well. And I totally agree - Luke would be able to spot that there's something odd about Charlie right away, even though I don't know if he'd get the alien part, especially since they're all undercover, so to speak. And never fear about SJ and the Doctor together here - 1) you know full well where my shipping preferences lie. ;) And 2) I'm actually not a fan of writing romantic conflict or angst. I really prefer writing about stable couples going up against odds, so to speak, you know? So there will never be any reason here to doubt the relationship between D and R, but there's going to be stuff going down.

I'm definitely going to have to do some hard thinking about bringing the Doctor's mother into this story. First things first, have to figure out how she could have survived the Time War (it's possible, I just need something plausible, lol). There may be, just maybe, a way to get Jackie back into the story as well, but I'm going to have to let things simmer a while on that idea. Give me a little bit and I'll let you know what's going through my mind on that one.

LOL, in regards to the tiem!babies, I do need a male name. I have a girl name, but the girl's the younger one so I should get a boy name first...any thoughts? :)

Ooh, yay, storytime. Will read it sometime tomorrow. I need to get to bed at a reasonable hour tonight because (the law student in you will like this one) I got called for jury duty tomorrow and I have to be at the courthouse at 8 in the morning. Oh joy. ;)

*GLOMPS BACK*
