Prickly and sweet and hopeful? Yay! That is a perfect description of how I meant Nine to be here - I think you summed it up better than I could have. And the end, at least how I'm envisioning it in my head, is right before the reunion. Rose is smart and she knows exactly what's coming. And I have to say that I got a large amount of unholy glee out of writing the dream and the end, knowing where those scenes were going to lead.
And of course I had to put the Loreena reference in there. *g* She didn't play it at the concert but it's one of my favorite pieces. And I wanted to set the reunion scene in Venice because it's just so darn pretty and gritty and real there. Also, I have a playlist for this series on my computer, and quite a few of Loreena's songs feature on there. There's that dorkiness coming out again, LOL...
